In its pure form, this drug is used in gynecological practice for small operations and for the treatment of small skin lesions (abrasions, wounds, burns), sclerosing with surgical excision of internal organs cysts (parenchymal). Also concentrated Betadin is intended for the disinfection of the epidermis before carrying out various manipulations, non-invasive operations.

For the treatment of purulent skin pathologies, complications after surgical interventions, sluggishly healing infected wounds, as well as herpetic lesions (including papillomas and condylomas), a 5% aqueous suspension is used (proportions are 1 to 2, respectively).

To rinse the throat, Betadine solution is advisable to dilute with water in a ratio of 1:10. Also this concentration (1%) is suitable for treatment of the oral cavity with stomatitis, donor tissues and organs on the eve of transplantation, before performing dental operations, treatment of fungal and bacterial dermatitis. The aqueous solution prepared in this way is also used for the disinfection of surgical instruments and equipment for endoscopy.

Before operations, a little concentrated (0.1%) aqueous mixture (proportions - 1: 100) is used to wash the joint and serous cavities.

It is important to note that Betadine should not be used in disorders of the functioning of the thyroid gland, such as hyperthyroidism , dermatitis of a herpetiform nature, the use of reactive iodine or preparations containing it, and also an increased sensitivity of the organism to the active ingredient. With long-term treatment with a solution it is important to periodically monitor the hormones TTG, T3 and T4, monitor the size of the thyroid gland by ultrasound.
