The dog has a black stool

In the vast majority of cases, the black color of the dog's stool is associated with the presence of an admixture of blood in it. And this shows a serious problem that requires urgent assistance.

Causes of black stools

  1. Internal bleeding . Depending on the shade of blood, you can judge where exactly the integrity of the organism is disturbed. For example, scarlet, red or burgundy blood in the stool suggests that bleeding somewhere in the large intestine or near the outlet is in the rectum, near the anus. But if the blood is dark, black, it means that it is already in a digestion and something happens higher - in the esophagus, stomach, small intestine.
  2. Worms or parasites . Their habitat is the small intestine. They stick to it and feed on blood, some of the blood from the wound formed goes along with the feces.
  3. A liquid black stool in a dog is caused by hemorrhagic gastroenteritis . More often happens in decorative breeds of dogs. In fact, it is an inflammatory process in the small intestine and stomach. In addition to the fact that the dog has a black stool, the disease is accompanied by vomiting.
  4. Parvovirus infection ( parvovirus enteritis ) is a transient viral infection that occurs only in dogs. Most often affects puppies with low immunity. Characteristic for this disease is not a uniform distribution of blood by feces, but isolation by its clots.
  5. Stomach ulcer . Blood in the feces is one of the symptoms of gastrointestinal bleeding. Blood can also be present in the vomit. This condition occurs in neglected cases of ulcers.
  6. Foreign object , that is, mechanical damage to the walls of the gastrointestinal tract. At this point in the future, bleeding and progressive deterioration of the condition occurs.
