Transport Museum


Not far from the center of Prague is the Museum of Transport (Museum of Public Transport or Muzeum městské hromadné dopravy). It stores about 50 types of historic trams and buses that were built in different eras. All of them are in working order, and some of them still roll tourists.

General information about the museum

In the Czech Republic , special attention has always been paid to public transport , the management of which has been adjusted to the smallest detail. In order to perpetuate these traditions, the government decided to found a museum . It was placed in the old building of the former city depot Vozovna Střešovice.

The building is a National Technical Monument, although at first glance it looks quite normal. The official opening of the Museum of Public Transport in Prague took place in 1993. Every year it is visited by tens of thousands of tourists who want to see unique expositions.

Here you will see documents and photos on which you can trace the history of public transport in the Czech Republic. The photographs show the construction of tram tracks, car parks and depots. The institution recreated the workplaces of employees equipped with communication and management systems.

What public transport is in the museum?

The exposition of the establishment is a restored transport that has been completely renovated and is in perfect condition. Each exhibit has a certain meaning and has a unique historical significance. The greatest interest among visitors is caused by:

  1. Konka is an equestrian tram that has been in operation in Prague since 1875. It is a horse-drawn car. The ordinary driver drove the transport, and the conductor took the fare.
  2. Mayor's tram №200 - looks rather exquisitely and has a rich interior decoration. It was released in 1900 at the Smichov plant and served for representative purposes. It was timed to the World Paris Exhibition.
  3. Tram 444 series - was released in Prague in 1923. It was produced in 2 factories: Krzizhik and Ringhoffer. On the roof of the transport is equipped with retro advertising.
  4. Bus Ikarus 280 - it was created in Hungary in the middle of XX century. It causes a storm of emotions among tourists who lived in the period of the existence of the socialist state. The salon is furnished with beige armchairs, and in the window you can see a doll-conductor, which wipes the windows.
  5. The Škoda bus of the 706 RO series is characterized by a unique design. It was released in 1948.
  6. Trolley bus Tatra series T-400 is a legendary transport, which was operated until 1955. It attracts visitors' sights with symbols of statehood - on its roof are flags of the USSR and Czechoslovakia.
  7. Service cars - resemble fire trucks, but belong to different city services. On the doors of the cars there is a coat of arms, signifying the purpose of transport.

Features of visit

During the tour, guests will be able to hear live music, go to some trams and even drive along the famous ring route number 91, consisting of 9 stops. The ticket price is $ 1.6, and the journey takes up to 40 minutes.

You can visit the Transport Museum in Prague from April to November, only on weekends and public holidays from 09:00 to 17:00. For foreign groups can make an exception. The cost of the ticket is $ 2.3 and $ 1.4 for adults and children from 6 to 15 years, respectively.

How to get there?

You can reach the place by trams Nos. 1, 2, 18, 25 and 41. The stop is called Vozovna Střešovice. From the center of Prague to the museum are also such streets: Žitná, Václavské nám. and Karlův most.
