Wet felting - master class

Traditions of felting out of wool are rooted in gray antiquity. But, like many other half-forgotten skills, this skill has recently experienced a new birth. One of the varieties of felting from wool, namely, the felting is dedicated to our today's master class.

Wet felting - a master class

The technique of wet felting out of wool, as the name suggests, implies the use of water as an auxiliary means for bonding disparate fibers into a single web. Consider the process of wet felting in more detail in the example of slippers.

We will need:

Let's get to work:

  1. We will outline the contour of the foot on paper and add to it 2-3 cm on each side to shrink.
  2. Cut patterns from an oilcloth or any other waterproof material.
  3. We lay thin strands of wool on the templates, gently pulling them out of the pile so that they do not break off. Fiber wool must be laid in one direction until the pattern is no longer visible.
  4. We put the blanks on a pimply film and abundantly soap with a soap solution.
  5. When the blanks are sufficiently moistened, cover them with a film and proceed to felting. This process is quite long and takes about two hours.
  6. When the wool on the templates "grab" the film can be removed and continue felting with bare hands. Continue it until the hair does not tighten the templates.
  7. Carefully cut through the hole for the leg, making it known to be less than necessary.
  8. We remove the template from the blank and continue felting, while giving the slippers a shape.
  9. The molding process will also take at least an hour, during which you can add soap solution if necessary.
  10. When the slippers take the final form, and the wool ceases to fall down, they must be thoroughly washed under running water.
  11. We give the edges a neat appearance, cutting off all that is superfluous.
  12. We send the slippers to dry on the battery.
  13. When the felt dries, you can begin to decorate slippers.

Having studied carefully our master class and using the methods of wet felting, you can create from wool not only sneakers, but also toys , accessories, shoes and clothes.
