More about the airport
Initially, the Mingaladon air base was located at the site of the present airport. Only in the post-war time it was rebuilt to the airport, which once won the title of the best airport in all Southeast Asia. Yangon Airport was reconstructed in 2003, it was added a new runway with a length of 3,415 meters, a new building for the passenger terminal, a large car park, modern equipment for automatic sorting of luggage and comfortable rooms. All innovations allow to serve simultaneously 900 arriving and as many departing passengers.
In 2013, the government of the state signed a contract with the largest construction company in this country, which in 2016 will complete the improvement of the airport, and it will be able to serve about 6 million people a year.
To the tourist on a note
Yangon Airport is located 15 kilometers from the city center, so you can reach it only by train (station Wai Bar Gi Station and Okkalarpa Station) or in a rented car.
