Anesthetics in dentistry

Still afraid of dentists? And remember, when was the last time you hurt a tooth? To date, anesthetics in dentistry are so effective that they reduce unpleasant sensations to a minimum. We continue to fear a visit to the dentist rather out of habit. And from bad habits should be disposed of.

Classification of anesthetics in dentistry

The most noticeable type of anesthesia is an injection in the jaw. This procedure is familiar to each of us and it is difficult to call it pleasant. But in fact the doctor uses a lot more types of anesthesia, just not all of them are so noticeable. Here are the main types:

Application anesthesia is used to reduce the sensitivity of the gum and tooth. Usually, this anesthesia is used to clean the tartar, whiten the teeth and to ensure that the notorious injection with anesthesia in the jaw is painless. The drugs based on Novocain and Lidocaine are used.

Infiltration anesthesia - this is the very injection. To date, for the procedure in dentistry, these types of anesthetics are used:

The drugs of the first group are actively used in general surgery, but they are too strong for dentistry. Preparations of the second group are easier to apply and more easily tolerated by the patient, but more often they can provoke an allergy.

Conducting anesthesia involves the introduction of an anesthetic into the nerve base to block the sensitivity of a large part of the face and jaw, usually performed after opening the tooth in the form of drops. The same drugs are used as for the injection.

Stem anesthesia is a blockage of the nerves at the base of the skull, this is a serious prick that will anesthetize the entire area of the head. It is performed before large dental operations and maxillofacial invasions.

Why are anesthetics without adrenaline needed in dentistry?

In order to prolong the action of the main analgesic component, many modern anesthetics in dentistry are supplemented with adrenaline or adrenaline-like substances. These so-called vasoconstrictors, as a rule, they are transferred well, but can cause an attack in patients with heart disease. To reduce the risk, this group of people need to apply Lidocaine or Novocaine in its pure form.
