One of the most widespread problems with a woman's health is cervicitis, an inflammation that develops on the mucous membrane of the cervix. The danger of this disease is that often even the most acute forms of cervicitis occur with such mild symptoms that a woman does not pay attention to them and the disease becomes chronic. Symptoms of chronic cervicitis are often either insignificant or absent altogether, so the woman usually finds out about the problem after she has been examined by a gynecologist. The consequences of chronic cervicitis are deplorable, since inflammation spreads from the cervix to the uterine tubes, there are spikes and pregnancy becomes impossible.
The main signs of cervicitis
- when cervicitis appears discharge from the vagina, having an unpleasant odor and a foamy structure, sometimes purulent;
- itching and burning sensation in the perineum, which increases with urination, and urge to urinate more frequent;
- pain during intercourse is noted, and after it - spotting;
- In the middle of the menstrual cycle, there are mucus discharge of dark color;
- if the inflammation is very severe, then the temperature may rise.
Cervicitis occurs most often in women of childbearing age. This is due to the fact that initially the cervix of the uterus in all girls is sterile and due to this it is reliably protected from inflammation. In order for pathogenic microorganisms to develop in it, the neck must be injured, and this can occur when contraceptives are introduced into the uterus, abortions, miscarriages, childbirth, etc.
Causes of cervicitis
- improper conduct of intimate hygiene;
- inflammatory processes in the small pelvis (oophoritis, erosion of the cervix, cystitis);
- omission of the cervix;
- hormonal changes during menopause;
- trauma of the cervix;
- illegibility in sexual life, the presence of venereal diseases (chlamydia, trichomoniasis, gonorrhea, ureaplasmosis, etc.);
- allergic reactions to latex or spermicidal compositions.
Diagnosis of cervicitis
To make a diagnosis, a doctor must necessarily conduct several procedures:
- do colposcopy, which will be able to detail changes in the epithelium of the cervix;
- carry out inspection with the help of mirrors;
- take smears for laboratory tests.
Types of cervicitis
Depending on the microorganisms that caused the inflammatory process, there are 4 types of cervicitis:
- Viral cervicitis is caused by viruses transmitted during sexual intercourse - the virus of herpes, human papillomavirus or HIV.
- The causes of bacterial cervicitis are bacterial infections, gonorrhea or vaginal dysbiosis.
- Candid cervicitis occurs as a result of damage to the cervix by a fungal infection.
- When cervicitis is noted mucopurulent discharge, and the inflammatory process covers the cylindrical epithelium of the cervix, they talk about the presence of purulent cervicitis.
Purulent cervicitis is characterized by such symptoms: profuse purulent or mucopurulent discharge and increased bleeding of the cervix. Most often purulent cervicitis occurs against the background of gonorrhea, the cause of it may be the presence of urethritis in a partner caused by STD pathogens. The consequences of purulent cervicitis are inflammatory processes in the pelvic organs and pathology in pregnant women (not pregnancy, premature birth).
For successful disposal of purulent cervicitis, the use of antibiotics and necessarily treatment of both partners. For the duration of treatment it is necessary to abstain from sexual activity.
