What will be needed to prepare the pit?

You have a minimal set of garden tools will be enough. It seems that every gardener has in his arsenal a bayonet shovel, a hacksaw on wood and a covering material such as a film.

Dimensions of the pit are usually within 1x2 meters and a height of one and a half meters. Accordingly, you will have enough 4 boards with a width of 150 mm, a thickness of 40 mm. You will also need nails 100 mm long.

You can make a compost hole from barrels or lay out of bricks. In extreme cases, to strengthen fit and slate pieces or rubber mats - in general, any improvised material.

Where to place a compost pit?

It is desirable to arrange a pit in a secluded shady place, not leeward, so that the smells of decay do not spoil the rest and work at the dacha. Do not place it near the fruit and berry plantations, as pears and apple trees from this neighborhood may die.

Composting pit technology

There are several ways to arrange the compost pit with their own hands. The simplest and most rational method is to dig it in the ground. So, we proceed to create a compost pit by our own hands:

1. We remove turf around the perimeter of our future pit. Roy is not too deep, about 50 cm, so that, firstly, the process of excavating the finished compost was not hindered, and secondly, that rainwater does not accumulate in it, inhibiting the decay process.
2. Put a layer of dry grass or straw on the bottom of the pit. And in the future, after each new waste release, a layer of grass should be laid on the garbage, which will eliminate the risk of flies and unpleasant odors.
3. Depending on what you decide to strengthen the walls of the pit, we overlay it with wooden boards, slate or other material. You can strengthen the pit with masonry or concrete.
4. It remains only to fill the pit with plant remains: mown grass, leaves, tops, vegetables, old roots. The main thing is not to tamper them.
