Gestosis - symptoms

Gestosis is a fairly serious disease, the signs of which are found only in pregnant women. This disease affects about a third of women who are carrying a child, and usually the disease passes by itself in a few days after birth. This phenomenon is also called toxicosis, which can be early or late. Often, this disease is caused by a strong weight gain during pregnancy, because virtually all women in an "interesting situation" can not deny themselves anything about food. In the first and even before the end of the second trimester, a pregnant woman can feel fine, because her fullness is not so noticeable. But when the term reaches the third trimester, then the future mother can be called a kolobok.

Excessive fullness not only spoils the figure, but also threatens the fact that many women on the basis of excess weight may have gestosis. But for the majority of pregnant women, the symptoms of this disease do not talk about anything, and they continue to live in a rhythm convenient for them. As a rule, signs of gestosis appear already in the third trimester, when the body of a woman suffers a large number of changes, as a result of which she suffers from swelling of the whole body.

Such edema appears due to the formation of substances in the placenta, which are capable of making holes in the vessels. This leads to the outflow of plasma and fluid through the blood in the tissue, which causes the appearance of edema. But such early signs of gestosis can be seen not immediately, as in some women they may not be visible at first glance, while in others they are very developed. To determine the general condition of pregnant women, doctors weigh them at each scheduled examination.

Symptoms of gestosis in the second half of pregnancy

Pregnancy during pregnancy usually appears on late terms, the appearance of which is indicated by the following symptoms:

  1. Increase in blood pressure above 140/90 mm Hg. This can and do not know, but the accompanying nausea, headache and blurred vision indicate a change in the worse.
  2. The appearance of protein in the urine, which is detected by doctors when passing tests before each scheduled examination. This phenomenon indicates a violation of the kidneys, without which gestosis does not appear.
  3. Convulsive seizures that can occur in severe cases of gestosis.
  4. Detachment of the placenta .
  5. Delayed development and death of the fetus.

In 90 percent of cases, the disease begins after 34 weeks of pregnancy and is more common in primiparous women. Also, the risk of gestosis increases with multiple pregnancies and with the bearing of a child aged less than twenty or older than thirty-five years. Sometimes there may be an early stage of the disease, when it appears at a period of twenty weeks. In this case, the gestosis is more severe, and the first signs of the disease are clearly pronounced.

Causes of late gestosis

The causes of this disease are not fully established. But it is precisely known that the placenta plays the main role in the development of gestosis, the development pathology of which adversely affects the blood supply of the uterus. And to increase the flow of blood to the uterus, the placenta triggers a mechanism that promotes the rise of pressure, resulting in narrowing of the vessels. But it is known that narrowed blood vessels negatively affect the functioning of the brain and kidneys, since insufficient blood is supplied to these organs. In addition, when a liquid enters the bloodstream, it becomes thicker and forms blood clots, which lead to a blockage of the veins.

That is why, if a pregnant woman has symptoms of late gestosis, she is immediately prescribed adequate treatment to preserve the fetus and the normal well-being of the expectant mother.
