Nonspecific colpitis

Colpitis is an infectious and inflammatory disease of the vaginal mucosa that arises under the action of conditionally pathogenic microorganisms. In another way colpitis is also called nonspecific vaginitis. This disease is most often found in women of reproductive age.

Colpitis can be specific and nonspecific. Specific colpitis is due to the presence of sexual infections.

Nonspecific colpitis is caused by the action of opportunistic microbes (streptococci, Escherichia coli , staphylococcus and others).

Nonspecific colpitis can occur in men.

Causes of nonspecific colpitis

The disease develops due to changes in the natural vaginal microflora. The vaginal microflora of a healthy woman is mainly represented by chopsticks producing lactic acid, killing various pathogenic microbes.

The development of colpitis in women is facilitated by:

Colpitis in men can develop after contact with a woman suffering from nonspecific vaginitis.

Symptoms of nonspecific colpitis

The main symptom of nonspecific colpitis is discharge.

They can be watery, purulent, liquid, foamy. They can thicken with strong sloughing of the epithelium, have an unpleasant odor.

In the case of acute colpitis, women are concerned:

With the chronic form of colpitis, the woman does not feel pain and the picture of the disease will be blurred. Patients complain of itching, bleeding, burning, ulceration in the outer third of the vagina and the vulva area.

In men, colpitis manifests as hyperemia of the head of the penis, burning and itching during intercourse and urination. Sometimes there may be cheesy-mucous discharge.

Treatment of nonspecific colpitis

The method of treatment of nonspecific colpitis is selected so as to eliminate, if possible, predisposing factors to the development of the disease.

Then proceed to the actual treatment of colpitis. The question of the use of antibiotics in each case is decided separately.

Patients are assigned both local and general treatment. Local therapy of the disease in women involves washing the vagina with antiseptics, such as Nitrofural, Miramistin, Dioxydin. Also in the vagina can be introduced candles with a hexicon, sticks with antibiotics. Women are also prescribed medications that normalize the vaginal flora.

Men are prescribed antibacterial, antipruritic, anti-inflammatory drugs in the form of baths, ointments, lotions. Anti-histamines and immunomodulators are also used to treat non-specific colpitis. The course of therapy lasts 10-15 days.
