Forgetting

Forgetting is a very important mechanism for the human psyche, which consists in the disappearance from the human consciousness of some piece of information. Despite the fact that at first glance it seems a problematic mechanism that only hinders, in fact it is he who helps in the most difficult life situations. Forgetting in psychology is treated differently, because there are two types of this process that distinguish the causes of forgetting: natural and as a result of some psychological traumas.

Forgetting as a process of memory

The first thing that is eliminated from memory is something for which we have not been concentrating our attention for a long time. Often forget all the thoughts that fly in my head before going to sleep, because of what and advise to keep a bedside notebook and pen for notes. Sleep, as a rule, erases bad memories, gives a rest to the psyche at the moment of grief. The law of forgetting is the fact that it covers events that we do not attach importance to, which allows us to keep in mind only relevant information that is important for us.

Forgetting as a repression

In most people, unpleasant events disappear from memory rather than pleasant ones, which gives grounds for speculation that this is how the process of ousting from the minds of what causes negative emotions takes place. It is through forgetting that we do not kill ourselves for the rest of our lives after the death of a relative, but find the strength to survive this situation.

Remembering and forgetting

Sometimes memorizing works against us, and the problem of forgetting can be called unless only its absence. If something unpleasant is stored in your mind, try a simple trick.

Stand up straight, head back, imagine that the information is stored in your hands and feet, light. Concentrate on this for a moment, and then throw it out of yourself, experiencing relief. Inhale, exhale, and shake all parts of your body. After this, the process of forgetting will be much faster.
