How to sew a skirt on an elastic band?

A skirt is a product that is sewn quite simply. Today we will learn how to sew a simple skirt with an elastic band . You will need a fabric, a sewing machine, pins, scissors and a ruler.

We sew a skirt on an elastic band - a master class

  1. Prepare the cut of the fabric from which you will sew. Since the skirt will be folded, the use of checkered "Scottish" fabric will be relevant. Such a skirt on an elastic band can be sewed without using a pattern - there will be enough elementary measures. The length of the cut is equal to the length of the future skirt plus the allowances for the seams. The width of the fabric should be equal to the double volume of your waist.
  2. Using a ruler or centimeter, measure the middle of the cut of the fabric along the width and mark with a pencil.
  3. Then grind this place with pins, forming the first crease. The fabric should triangulate downwards in this case. To fix wrinkles, it is convenient to use so-called tail pins with balls at the ends.
  4. Continue to form folds on the skirt, moving from its center to the edges. Try to keep them all about the same width.
  5. Now you need to build a machine stitch along the top edge of the skirt. This should be done without removing the pins, or by fixing the folds manually with a notch.
  6. Cut the edges of the skirt with an overlock. If this tool is not near at hand, you can use the zig-zag seam.
  7. Now you need to do an elastic band. For a skirt it is best to use a wide elastic band (about 5 cm). They come in different colors - choose a suitable color for the fabric. Stitch the rubber band on the car, connecting it to the ring. The total length of the resulting circle should be equal to the waistline minus 2-3 cm (depending on the shape). Do not forget about the allowances on the seams! In order for the skirt to be comfortable to wear, it is better to try on the elastic at the waist, so that it does not crush and at the same time is elastic enough.
  8. Connect the skirt to the elastic with an elastic seam from the inside. The product is ready!
  9. The skirt turned out to be short, above the knee. Using the same technique, it is easy to sew a long skirt on an elastic band (as they say, "on the floor"). You can make more or less creases, or even do without them, sewing a straight skirt. Look great checkered skirt on an elastic band on little girls. Children grow quickly, and thanks to an elastic band, this skirt will be worn for a bit longer than the usual straight skirt on the snake.
