As with other diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, proper nutrition in pancreatitis is almost the main way of its treatment. The main causes of pancreatitis, or inflammation of the pancreas, are excessive consumption of alcohol and gallbladder disease. It follows that the therapeutic diet prescribed for pancreatitis can also be used for cholecystitis, an inflammation of the gallbladder.
Pancreatitis can also be caused by trauma, swelling, helminthiasis, prolonged use of certain medications and any diseases of the duodenum or stomach. For this reason, the nutrition scheme for pancreatitis can also be applied to people who suffer from gastritis.
What foods are allowed in pancreatitis?
Nutrition with pancreatitis allows a sick person to have in his diet:
- chicken meat (without skins), rabbit meat, veal;
- porridge (semolina and mashed rice, millet, pearl, buckwheat);
- starchy vegetables: cauliflower, beets, potatoes, carrots, zucchini;
- dairy products of low fat content;
- breadcrumbs and stale wheat bread.
Simultaneously, therapeutic nutrition in pancreatitis excludes the following products:
- alcohol and all fizzy drinks;
- fat meat;
- beans;
- wheat porridge;
- smoked products;
- sharp and fatty dishes;
- all spices;
- cocoa and chocolate.
Proper nutrition with pancreatitis
In the diet for patients with pancreatitis, the following basic rules exist:
- food can only be baked, steamed or boiled;
- Do not eat hot or cold food - food should be warm;
- there should be small portions and often - up to 6 times a day.
Special nutrition in the presence of pancreatitis in adults should usually last from 2 to 8 months. In this menu includes:
- lean fish, poultry, lean meat;
- hard-boiled eggs (up to two per day);
- mucous porridges on water;
- puddings;
- sour cream and cottage cheese (not very high fat content);
- mashed potatoes, courgettes, carrots, pumpkins;
- vegetable oil (norm per day - 15 grams);
- butter (the norm per day - 20 grams, as an additive to ready-made meals);
- jellies and fruit compotes, broth of wild rose, weak coffee and loose tea.
Daily distribution of products: 70 grams of fat, 120 - protein and 400 grams - carbohydrates. All cooked food should not be very salty (not more than 10 grams of salt per day is allowed). Limit also the use of sugar, honey and sweets.
From the diet, you must completely exclude foods that irritate the mucous membrane of the stomach (the so-called sokonnye). Frozen foods are:
- vegetable and mushroom decoctions;
- strong broths (fish and meat);
- cabbage;
- caviar;
- herring.
The resulted scheme of a medical feed can be followed constantly at presence of the diagnosis of a chronic pancreatitis.
Nutrition for exacerbation of pancreatitis
The diet plan for acute pancreatitis should start with hungry days. In the first two days only warm drink is allowed - a decoction of wild rose, or non-carbonated mineral water. If the pain subsided, you can start using mucous decoctions, and after them - rubbed rice or buckwheat porridge. Then, the food is allowed to include stale bread, low-fat milk and low-fat cottage cheese. If the condition has stabilized, the menu includes mashed potatoes and mashed soups
During nutrition with exacerbation of pancreatitis, the daily diet provides for 8 meals a day, each serving of food should not exceed 300 grams in volume. The daily distribution of foods in the diet is as follows: 280 grams of carbohydrates, 80 - proteins and 60 - fat.
Recall that all food in the period of therapeutic nutrition in case of pancreatitis should be consumed exclusively in a warm form.
