Peonies - planting and care in the open ground

Blooming peony is a favorite plant for many of us. In the beginning of summer, he dissolves his magnificent buds, filling the neighborhood with a heady aroma and pleasing the eyes with a rich tone of petals. It is for these fleeting moments of enjoyment of beauty that a considerable number of gardeners make a decision about planting and caring for peonies in the open.

Planting pions in the open ground

The main thing in planting is choosing the right place, because these magnificent plants will grow there for many years. It should be a site well illuminated or staying in direct sunlight the first half of the day. Since peonies react negatively to through gusts, the place is picked up from the winds, for example, behind trees, high bushes or near the walls of buildings. As the roots of the plant decay from an excess of moisture, for planting lowland areas are completely unsuitable.

If we talk about when to plant peonies in the open ground, then early spring or early autumn is suitable for this. In spring, the flowers are planted immediately in the open ground, until the air has warmed to 10 degrees. Otherwise the rhizome of a peony will not get accustomed and will perish. In autumn, planting is carried out until the end of September. This time is enough for rooting, which means that the plant will survive the winter.

For the root system of the peony, a pit of a depth of 45-60 cm with a diameter of 60 cm is dug out. The soil is mixed with fertile turf ground, peat and sand. You can add to the mixture of fertilizers - 1 tbsp. iron sulfate, 1 glass of superphosphate and 500 g of ash. If you experience that the plant does not survive, treat the roots with a clay chatter or root stimulator.

Deepen the peony in such a way that the growth buds are located below the surface of the earth by two to three centimeters. The land is watered, pritaptyvayut and mulch.

Peonies - outdoor care

Like any garden plant, peony perfectly responds to timely watering, loosening the soil and feeding.

In the first year, the flower should not be allowed to form buds. The process takes a lot of energy, so necessary for the development of the root system. But with due care for the next season you will certainly enjoy the brightness of the peony. However, to make flowers appear again and again, wilted buds should be cut.

Growing pions in the open field is impossible without systematic feeding. It is produced in three steps:

  1. At the end of April, nitrogen fertilizers are used to build up the green mass.
  2. At the beginning of summer, potassium and phosphorus compounds are used for flowering.
  3. In autumn, potassium, phosphorus and humus are applied to each bush.

In regions with severe winter peonies, especially young ones, should be prepared. Old shoots shorten to the ground. Then they are covered with what is available - sawdust, peat, straw.

Peonies in landscape design

Peonies - an excellent option for rock gardens, decorating lawns, park areas, landscapes and homesteads. Plants, thanks to their splendor, look great in large areas in the midst of a low-growing lawn, creating voluminous compositions.

By the way, in flower combinations peonies also participate. Luxurious buds in themselves look spectacular, and therefore to choose their "neighbors" should be taken seriously. With regard to the theme, with which peonies are combined in the flowerbed, then plants are selected finely flowering or from an ornate foliage group that will perfectly shade the beauty of the buds. It can be a cuff, primroses, daisies, bells, honeysuckle , boodle.

Peonies perfectly and harmoniously look near trees or tall shrubs - juniper, viburnum .

Planting peonies of different varieties near it is not recommended, they should be placed in different parts of the plot.
