Recto-rheumatoscopy of the intestine

Recto-manoscopy (rectoscopy) is an examination of the rectum and the terminal section of the sigmoid colon. The procedure is carried out with the help of a rectoscope, which is a rigid tube about 30 centimeters long and 2 centimeters in diameter, with special lenses, an illuminator and an air supply device. During the examination, the doctor can assess the state of the intestinal mucosa, the general condition of the intestine, establish the presence of tumors, polyps, tumors, scars, cracks, hemorrhoids. If necessary, it is possible to conduct a biopsy (taking a material of suspicious education for analysis).

How is the sigmoidoscopy done?

The procedure is carried out in the clinic and takes only a few minutes.

The patient undresses below the waist and is placed on the couch in the knee-elbow position (preferably) or lying on his side. First the doctor conducts a finger examination of the rectum. Then the tube of the rectoscope is richly lubricated with vaseline oil and injected into 4-5 centimeters. Further manipulations are carried out under visual supervision. The tube of the rectoscope is advanced strictly along the intestinal canal, pumping up the air to expand and straighten the folds of the mucosa. At a distance of 12-14 centimeters is usually a bend of the intestine, the passage of the rectum into the sigmoid, and if the patient does not relax enough, unpleasant sensations are possible at this stage.

Indications for intestinal rectosurgery

This examination is prescribed if the patient consults the proctologist with the following complaints:

How to prepare for a sigmoidoscopy?

With sigmoidoscopy, the most difficult and unpleasant may not be the procedure itself, but the patient's preparation for it. It takes from 24 to 48 hours and requires a number of conditions.

Two days before the survey, vegetables, fruits, other products containing a large amount of indigestible fibers or promoting gassing (for example, legumes) should be excluded from the diet.

On the eve and in the morning on the day of the examination, the intestine should be cleared. For cleaning the intestine, there are three most common methods:

  1. Preparing for a fortunate sigmoidoscopy. Fortrans is a strong enough laxative, which should be taken with a lot of fluid. At the moment, other drugs (flit, dyufalak) can be used instead. To receive fortrans the evening before the study requires 2 packages of the drug. To dilute one packet take a liter of water and drink the medication over a glass every 15-20 minutes. In the morning, the procedure is repeated. The exposure time is 1.5-2 hours, so it should be taken at least 3-4 hours before the procedure.
  2. Prepare for sigmoidoscopy with microlax. Microlax is also a laxative, but intended for rectal administration. In the evening on the eve of the examination, two tubes of the drug should be injected with an interval of 15-20 minutes. In the morning, repeat the procedure. In the evening, you can afford a light supper, in the morning you should refrain from eating.
  3. Preparation with enemas. Bowel rinsing is performed with cleansing enemas twice, in the evening and in the morning, before the examination. In the evening it is recommended to put two enemas on 1 liter with a small interval, warm water without additives. In the morning, repeat the procedure until the outlet of clean water.

Many people are worried about the question: is it painful to do a sigmoidoscopy? Of course, the feeling of discomfort in this procedure arises, but in general it is painless and carried out without anesthesia. The need for anesthesia occurs only if the patient has traumas and cracks in the anal passage.
