Urine for newborns

Conducting laboratory tests of blood, feces and urine is a mandatory regular procedure for all, without exception, children. And if the collection of blood and feces usually does not cause special difficulties, then it is very difficult for mothers to collect the necessary portion of morning urine before going to the children's polyclinic. The list of actions and tricks used for this is impressive, surprising and amusing: someone collects urine in a plastic bag, someone "catches" it with a basin, a jar, a pot, someone stimulates the urination of children with the sound of running water, and some even frost toddlers feet or use a cold oilcloth ... parental fantasy is almost limitless. Meanwhile, special medical disposable urinals for babies have existed for a long time in the children's goods market. In this article, we'll look at this useful device and tell you how to use a baby urine receiver.

What does a child's urinal look like?

The children's urinal is a sterile container (usually cellophane or other transparent synthetic material) with a hole around which a special adhesive layer is applied (for attaching to the skin). Of course, the urinals for girls and boys are somewhat different in structure, but they have a common goal - to ensure the collection of urine for the subsequent conduct of laboratory tests.

How to use a urine collection for girls and boys?

Consider how to dress a baby urine receiver:

  1. Before you start collecting urine, thoroughly wash your baby, prepare everything you need (urine collection, a collection container for analysis, etc.), wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. Provision of sterility is a prerequisite for collecting urine for analysis. After all, this is what helps to ensure the most accurate result of research.
  2. Open the package, remove and straighten the urethra.
  3. Remove the protective coating (most often it's a special waxed paper) from the sticky layer near the receiving hole.
  4. Attach the urine collection so that the urethra of the child is located directly in front of the urethra orifice. In girls it is attached to the labia, the boys put a penis inside the ureter, and the glue layer is fixed on the testicles.
  5. We are waiting for the result. Some parents put on the diaper from the top, so that the child does not accidentally tear off the urine receiver by moving the legs. But at the same time, you should be careful not to accidentally remove or move the urine collector with a diaper;
  6. When the required amount of urine is collected, remove the urine collection (for this you just need to peel it off). Do not worry that the child will be hurt - the adhesive is specially designed for babies and does not damage their delicate skin. Cut the corner of the urethra and pour the liquid into a sterile jar. Close the jar with a lid. The urine is ready for analysis.

To control the necessary amount of urine on the walls of the urine receiver, a special marking is made, showing the volume of the collected "material" in milliliters. Do not worry if you can not collect a complete urine collection, for most studies, a minimal amount of urine is sufficient. Of course, it is best to ask the pediatrician for the minimum amount of urine needed for the analysis.

As you can see, such a simple and unpretentious thing as a neonatal urinal can greatly facilitate the life of young parents and save them from having to use a variety of, sometimes even somewhat cruel, folk ways of collecting baby urine.
