A rash in the baby's arms

The skin of the baby is very tender and vulnerable. It grows up every day, gaining more and more new functions that, by adulthood, will contribute to the reliable protection of the body. But what to do if a rash appeared on the baby's hands? Is this an excuse to sound an alarm? About this later in our article.

What could it be?

The rash in the baby's arms may appear for various reasons. According to the frequency, allergic rashes that lead the child after a year of age are in the lead, then the baby starts to get acquainted with the surrounding world, as well as all the hygiene products with which we contact daily.

Further on the list are viral and infectious diseases. Most often, the first signs of a rash appear on the torso or face, and only then pass to the arms and legs. But, since the hands are always in sight, it is possible that you will first find it on your hands, and only then, carefully examining the baby's skin, mark the rashes all over the body.

And now more about each of the causes of the rash in the baby's arms.

  1. Allergic rash on the hands . If your baby has been in contact with a new hand soap, shampoo, or other hygiene product, after which a rash has appeared - it's not difficult to guess its cause. But, unfortunately, more often, a rash in a child on hands appears a few days after the start of using an allergenic product. Therefore, the cause of occurrence can be difficult to establish. Fortunately, an experienced dermatologist immediately distinguishes an allergic rash on the hands, and will prescribe the correct treatment for you.
  2. Atopic dermatitis . It is generally believed that atopic dermatitis is transmitted hereditarily. But for the disease to make itself felt - you need constant contact with the allergen. If you notice a rash on the hands of the newborn, redness, and in a few days the appearance of small blisters - most likely your baby has atopic dermatitis. In order to avoid the progression of the disease, you must follow certain rules that will help you to exclude the baby from contact with the allergen. Things need to be washed with soap or hypoallergenic powder, and also minimize the use of all household chemicals. The house should not have animals, because their dandruff - the strongest "provocateur". As often as possible, do wet cleaning, and if you suspect a particular substance, take a blood test to confirm your guesses. In any case, a doctor's consultation is required, since without proper treatment atopic dermatitis is complicated by allergic rhinitis and bronchial asthma.
  3. Viral / infectious causes . Many children's infections are characterized by eruptions throughout the body, including on the hands. These include - scarlet fever, chicken pox, rubella, measles, impetigo and other diseases. In the first days of illness, they appear in the field of the trunk, face, only after some time pass to the hands and feet. But there is also a viral infection, which is primarily manifested in the hands - it's the Coxsackie virus. The rash on the hands, on the hands, between the fingers is the first sign of the disease. Also, small blisters can be present on the lower limbs. There is another form of Coxsackie's disease - aphthous tonsillitis. In this case, hands and feet are not affected, but the process is actively involved in the throat. The virus is very quickly transmitted from one child to another, but can be easily stopped - personal hygiene with ease "kills" it. But if your child has already contracted infection - be aware that the treatment of a rash on the hands with Coxsackie's illness is rather simple. Bed rest, antipyretic (if necessary), as well as a plentiful drink.

It is very important to take a responsible approach to the treatment of rashes on the hands, especially if the child tends to comb it. Always remember the risk of getting an infection that is not nearly as harmless as the primary cause of the rash.
