A solution of glycerin has several useful properties:

  1. Hygroscopicity. This substance is able to absorb water in large quantities - up to 40% of its weight; this means that the means based on glycerin absorb moisture, and when applied inside, help get rid of excess fluid; for the same reason it must be taken with caution - a colorless liquid is harmless only at first glance, and its excessive amount will lead to serious consequences.
  2. Bactericidal. Glycerin is also known as an antiseptic, because it is a representative of trihydric alcohols, and is therefore capable of killing certain bacteria.

The use of glycerin in medicine

The use of glycerin inside some people seems a strange procedure, because it is usually used externally or rectally. Nevertheless, this colorless and sweet liquid can be used for internal use - glycerin is absorbed into the walls of the stomach, but it is not absorbed into the blood.

Glycerin from cough

Some physicians who allow treatment with folk remedies have a positive response to glycerin as a cough suppressant only if it is combined in one recipe with lemon and honey.

Recipe for glycerin with lemon and honey from cough:

  1. Take a lemon and cook it for 10 minutes.
  2. Drain lemon water and cool the fruit, and then cut it in half and squeeze the contents of the lemon - the pulp with juice into the glass.
  3. Then add 2 tablespoons. glycerin.
  4. After that, fill the glass with honey to the brim.
  5. Stir the ingredients.
  6. Allow the product to stand for 24 hours in a cool place, after which it will be ready.

Take this medicine you need 1 tbsp. 7-8 times a day.

Glycerin for reduction of intraocular pressure

Glycerin is also used in glaucoma and after ophthalmic operations to reduce intraocular pressure. It helps to reduce the size of the vitreous, and given that the spectrum of its side effects is minimal when the dosage is observed, this is an undeniable advantage over other agents of a similar effect.

Glycerin in stroke

Another positive effect of glycerin is noted by neuropathologists. They argue that glycerin helps to relieve cerebral edema, and so the symptoms of the stroke are alleviated. However, glycerin can be used for these purposes in extreme cases, because there are more effective drugs against brain edema, which are more appropriate in emergency situations than glycerin.

Dosage of medical glycerin for internal use

Liquid glycerine for internal use is diluted with water in equal proportions.

The amount of intake is calculated depending on the weight: 1 ml is 3 ml of solution at the first reception, and in subsequent techniques this dosage is reduced by 2 times.

With overdose and prolonged use, dehydration occurs.
