IHC, conducted in breast cancer, determines the nature of the tumor. Most often with IHC of the breast, the definition of receptors is used:
- estrogen (ER);
- progesterone (PR).
It was found that a tumor containing a large number of these receptors behaves non-aggressively, is inactive. When treating this form, hormone therapy is very effective. Favorable prognosis in 75% of cases.
When deciphering the results of analysis of IHC of the breast, percentage units of measurement are used. This determines the ratio of the number of cells with expression (susceptibility) to estrogens and progesterone, the total number of tumor cells. In this case, the result is deduced as the ratio of the number of nuclei of the stained cells to unpainted, in aggregate to 100 cells.
