Synthomycin suppositories in gynecology

Quite often in gynecological practice, a drug such as Synthomycin is used. It is an antibiotic that shows active action against microbes, spirochaetes, rickettsia, large viruses. It acts even on those strains of bacteria that are resistant to sulfonamides, streptomycin, penicillin.

The effect of this remedy is the violation of protein synthesis in the cell of the microorganism. Synthomycin has good lipophilicity, easily overcomes the bacterial cell membrane and delays the movement of amino acids to peptide targets. The advantage of the drug is that the resistance of bacteria to its active substance - chloramphenicol - develops slowly.

The drug is presented in various forms, but vaginal synthomycin suppositories (suppositories) are most often used to treat diseases of the female genital area.

The use of synthomycin suppositories

According to the instructions for the use of synthomycin suppositories, their purpose is justified for various bacterial infections of female genital organs, in particular, cervicitis and vaginitis. But it must be borne in mind that the pathogenic microorganisms that caused these diseases should be sensitive to this drug. For this purpose, before the appointment of the drug, a woman takes a smear and bacteriological culture is performed. If the causative agent of the disease shows sensitivity to this antibiotic, then the treatment will be effective.

With regard to the use of synthomycin suppositories for thrush , this is not considered justified, since the agent has no antifungal effect. In addition, this drug (due to the fact that it is an antibiotic) can lead to a violation of the vaginal flora and the development of candidiasis (thrush). Therefore, after therapy with suppositories of Synthomycin, it is important to restore the natural microflora.

Synthomycin suppositories in gynecology are used not only as a remedy, but also as a prophylactic, for example, before hysterography or before an abortion operation, as well as before the diathermocoagulation of the cervix, and the installation of an intrauterine device (and after it) in order to prevent purulent infections and the development of the inflammatory process.

Synthomycin suppositories, as a rule, the doctor appoints for 2-3 days a candle for 7-10 days. The drug is injected as deep as possible into the vagina, while the woman should be in a prone position. The dosage of Synthomycin for adolescent girls is 1-2 suppositories per day.

Evaluation of the effectiveness of treatment is carried out after five days. If the desired effect is not achieved after ten days, the doctor should review the treatment and prescribe any other medicines.
