Lighting for plants

Lighting for plant growth plays an important role. With its help, they produce nutrients, so that the quality of light directly affects the appearance of indoor flowers.

Effect of light on plants

Like all living things, the adaptations to light in plants are laid by nature. Such abilities are different for each plant species. There are species that can adapt well and are not particularly fastidious to lighting. For other plants, the wrong light regime threatens to kill, many species stop blooming or stop growing.

The effect of light on plants is to lower the level of chlorophyll in excess of illumination. In this case, the color of the foliage acquires a yellowish-green hue. With too intensive illumination, the growth of flowers slows down, they acquire a more squat appearance, and the leaves become broad and short.

If the foliage has acquired a bronze-yellow hue, then this is a signal about a significant excess of light in the room, which harms plants. Due to this effect, burns will appear on the leaves.

Lighting for indoor plants

Lighting for plants of different types should be taken into account when selecting a place in an apartment. There are several main plant species, depending on their preferences regarding the intensity of light:

  1. Plants that prefer shading. Such species can not be put in place with direct sun rays. But you can safely put in the corners of the room. In winter, shade plants need additional illumination. Ideally, such plants should be placed at a distance of 3-4 meters from the window.
  2. Plants that prefer partial shade or diffuse light. Indoor plants that bloom, as well as herbaceous species are especially capricious. This also applies to variegated species. Such plants are very fond of diffuse light, but perish when exposed to direct sun rays. If the light is too low, then they cease to bloom and lose the brightness of the color of the foliage. Best of all, they will feel at a distance of 1-2 meters from the window.
  3. Plants that love a lot of light. Such species require maximum illumination and are completely not afraid of southern windows.

Cultivation of plants under artificial illumination

In winter, in addition to covering almost all types of plants. Since the light day becomes too short, you have to use lamps. Many people think that additional lighting for plants creates chandeliers or wall sconces. This is a misconception. The incandescent lamps emit heat, which will ruin the condition of the flowers. It is better to give preference to fluorescent lamps. Once you install it near the plants, observe them for about two weeks. If necessary, add another lamp or bring the plant closer to the light source.
