About a third of all inflammatory diseases of the oral cavity is streptococcal angina. Despite the fact that the pathology is well treatable, it has a number of dangerous complications, which in rare cases affect the functioning of not only the respiratory tract, but also the urinary, digestive system, and kidneys.
Symptoms of strep throat
Clinical signs of pathology are not immediately apparent, but on 3-4 days. The onset of angina development rarely has characteristic symptoms, the temperature can rise abruptly to 38-38.5 degrees, but in most cases this index increases gradually.
Main features:
- white or yellowish purulent coating on tonsils of loose consistency;
- absence of cough;
- increase and soreness of the lymph nodes.
Additional symptoms:
- pain or aches in bones, joints, muscles;
- fever;
- manifestations of intoxication (lack of appetite, weakness, fatigue).
Treatment of streptococcal angina
Antibiotics are used to suppress the proliferation of pathogenic microorganisms. The purpose of a specific drug is made only after the results of laboratory tests of the smear from the oral cavity, as well as determining the sensitivity of microbes to various medications.
Effective antibiotics from streptococcal angina:
- Penicillin;
- Augmentin;
- Sumamed ;
- Amoxicillin;
- Hemomycin;
- Azithromycin.
The course of therapy should be at least 5, but not more than 10 days, as a rule, it lasts 7 days.
It is worth noting that the results of treatment are manifested after 48-72 hours. If this does not happen, the medication should be replaced.
Also, with angina, a streptococcal bacteriophage is prescribed, a preparation of immunobiological action. It is not an antibiotic, but it has a selective depressant effect on pathogens.
To reduce the severity of symptoms it is recommended to take antipyretic drugs (Paracetamol, Ibuprofen, Nimesulide),
Complications of streptococcal angina
Absence of therapy can provoke the following consequences:
- gullet and paratonzillar abscess ;
- Streptococcal toxic shock;
- acute poststreptococcal glomerulonephritis;
- rheumatism.
