Paresis and paralysis of the larynx are similar pathological conditions of the body that can develop under the influence of the same factors, but still have significant differences. Thus, with paralysis, there is a complete breakdown in the laryngeal motor function, the absence of arbitrary movements, and with paresis, a partial decrease in the force of arbitrary movements of the laryngeal muscles.
Symptoms of laryngeal paresis
At a paresis of a larynx such signs are shown:
- hoarseness, hoarseness or loss of voice;
- coughing;
- difficulty breathing;
- dyspnea;
- frequent choking while eating or drinking;
- pain in the throat;
- sensation of a lump, foreign body in the throat;
- pallor of the skin.
Causes of laryngeal paresis
Paralysis and paresis of the larynx are connected either with a violation of innervation (carrying out nerve impulses from the brain), or with a malfunction of the muscles. Most often the reasons are:
- inflammation of the larynx or trachea with prolonged laryngitis, laryngotracheitis;
- intense stress on the vocal cords;
- damage to brain structures that transmit nerve impulses to the tissues of the larynx (due to inflammatory processes in the brain, the presence of tumors, multiple sclerosis , etc.);
- toxic damage to nerve trunks due to infection, poisoning with chemicals;
- disorders of blood circulation in vascular pathologies;
- compression of the nerve trunk with tumors developing in the neck, esophagus, and thorax.
In addition, the larynx paresis can develop after surgery on the neck, chest, in the brain, when there is damage to the nerve structures, as well as due to various injuries.
Treatment of laryngeal paresis
Treatment of this pathology is carried out in accordance with the identified causes of laryngeal immobility, the elimination of which should be addressed in the first place. The following activities can be assigned:
- taking medications that improve the conductivity of the nerve impulse and microcirculation;
- observance of voice dormancy;
- physiotherapeutic procedures;
- respiratory gymnastics ;
- phonopedic classes.
In severe cases, for example, with bilateral postoperative paresis of the larynx, surgical intervention may be required, and treatment should be performed as soon as possible to prevent atrophy of muscle tissue.
Treatment of the larynx of the larynx can be supplemented with folk remedies, the most safe and effective of which are herbal medicinal herbs with anti-inflammatory properties (chamomile, thyme, pine needles).
