Piogenic granuloma

Piogenic granuloma (botryomycoma) is a benign, rapidly developing tumor that resembles a tumor and consists of a granulation tissue with a large number of dilated, proliferating capillaries. Most often, pyogenic granulomas are localized on the fingers, hands, feet, face (cheeks, lips), sometimes - on the genitals, eyelids and mucous membranes.

Symptoms of pyogenic granuloma

As a rule, this neoplasm has a rounded shape, a smooth or coarse-grained surface, is located on the stem. The size usually does not exceed 1.5-3 cm in diameter, the color is red or brownish. In most cases, the pyogenic granuloma is single, fewer are found in multiple formations.

At first, the pyogenic granuloma grows, after which it can decrease in size. These neoplasms can easily bleed, erode, necrotize. In the absence of treatment, the botryomicom can exist for many years without a tendency to spontaneous regress.

Causes of pyogenic granuloma

It is believed that pyogenic granulomas arise in response to mechanical injuries - cuts, injections, burns, etc. A certain role in the formation of these elements is played by staphylococcal infection. This disease is also associated with hormonal disorders , treatment with retinoids.

Diagnosis of pyogenic granuloma

Basically, the diagnosis in a pyogenic granuloma is not difficult and is based on a clinical picture. Some difficulties arise in atypical granulomas (multiple, giant), granulomas of uncharacteristic localizations, in neglected cases when secondary infection is attached. Histological examination is carried out in such situations.

Treatment of pyogenic granuloma

Treatment of pyogenic granuloma is carried out through surgery in one of the following ways:

In most cases, the result of the operation is favorable. If there is insufficient removal of the pyogenic granuloma, relapses may occur.

It should be noted that conservative methods in the treatment of pyogenic granuloma do not give positive results, therefore it is recommended to perform surgical treatment immediately. Also, the treatment of pyogenic granuloma with folk remedies does not bring the desired effect.
