Temple of Jovan Vladimir


The Cathedral of Jovan Vladimir is the largest and most modern Orthodox building in Montenegro . A majestic building with golden bells, whose chimes pour into the entire neighborhood of the Bar , attracts crowds of tourists from all over the world.

The Church of St. Jovan Vladimir is located near the coastline, in the town of Bar and belongs to the Barskaya Riviera.

History of creation

The construction of the temple was started 20 years ago. Then numerous believers from all over the world collected money for its construction. Some organizations joined the number of donors, including the Russian bell-foundry "Vera", thanks to which nine bells appeared at the cathedral. One of the St. Petersburg patrons gave the Montenegrin church a three-meter gilded cross, which now adorns the bell tower of St. Helena.

By the autumn of 2016, construction and interior decoration were completely completed, and on September 24 Patriarch of Jerusalem Theophilus III, together with the Primate of the Serbian Orthodox Church Irenaeus, Archbishop of Tirana and all Albania Anastasia, Archbishop of Ohrid and Metropolitan Jovan of Skopje, consecrated the cathedral church of St. Jovan Vladimir. It is consecrated in honor of the first Serbian ruler in Montenegro, who martyred on the cross. Here he is called Yovan Vladimir, in other places you can hear "John Vladimir".

What is interesting about the temple of Jovan Vladimir?

The temple of Jovan Vladimir has its own small territory with green spaces and convenient congresses from the road. Several steps lead to the main entrance. Visitors to different countries are struck first of all by the exterior of the cathedral. It is a huge snow-white temple with beautiful gilded domes. It is a symbol and decoration of the city.

From the outside, you can see that the cathedral consists of two parts - the main and annex, which, although much lower, is also crowned with a dome. In the architecture of the temple are mixed several styles, including the Mediterranean and old-style Montenegrin church architecture.

The cathedral includes several chapels, one of which is consecrated in honor of the great Russian saint Alexander Nevsky. In the western part of the temple there is an amphitheater designed for cultural, educational and spiritual purposes. This is the first room of its kind in the city.

Traveling around the city ​​of Bar , you can not pass by the majestic cathedral of St. Jovan Vladimir. It can be seen from afar, but a bell ringing well to the outskirts of the city will help you find your bearings. If you go on foot, then head to the coast. You can also go by car or taxi.
