Diet with cholesterol

Cholesterol is a lipid (a kind of fat) that is found in every cell of the body, especially a lot of it in the brain, liver and blood. Cholesterol plays an important role in maintaining vital processes, for example, in the formation of cells, the production of hormones and digestion. The human body itself produces the necessary amount of cholesterol, but it can be obtained in excess, consuming food saturated with fats.

Raising the level of cholesterol can lead to negative consequences, for example, the risk of cardiovascular disease, stroke. A high level of cholesterol leads to the formation of cholesterol plaques on the vessels, on which thrombi form. If such a thrombus ruptures and gets into the bloodstream, it can cause blockage of the vessels of vital organs, and can cause a heart attack.

Healthy people can consume up to 300 mg of cholesterol per day, and people with cardiovascular diseases up to 200 mg.

If necessary, the level of cholesterol in the blood can be reduced with the help of a special diet. Such a diet can normalize the level of cholesterol even without the use of special drugs.

With a high cholesterol diet

In fact, everything is quite simple here - it is necessary to limit the intake of fats of animal origin and food cholesterol into the body. To do this, you must adhere to the following rules:

  1. Products that increase cholesterol are fatty pork, offal, fatty dairy products, baked pastries, margarine, coconut and sunflower oil, fish caviar, mayonnaise, sausages and sausages. Their consumption should be very strongly limited. You should also forget about all kinds of fast foods and fast breakfasts.
  2. It is recommended to replace all fried foods with stews or cooked, there are more fresh fruits and vegetables. Include in your diet no cholesterol-containing cereals.
  3. Kashi can be cooked with dried fruits, without the addition of butter. Particular attention should be paid to oatmeal, which lowers cholesterol, and supplies the body with the necessary amount of amino acids and trace elements. It is desirable to eat oatmeal on an empty stomach.
  4. Meat can be eaten with chicken or veal. A portion of meat should not be more than 100 grams in ready-made form. You can eat chicken or veal no more than 2 times a week. Skin of chicken must be removed, as it contains a large amount of fat.
  5. On the remaining days, prepare fish. Fat contained in fish is unsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids, which help the body cope with the dangerous consequences of high cholesterol.
  6. Onion and garlic promote the expansion and purification of blood vessels, preferably their regular use, by adding to salads, and other dishes.
  7. Eat a few apples or oranges a day, as they are rich in vitamins and strengthen the walls of blood vessels. Grapes can also help reduce cholesterol levels due to active compounds that are found in its skin. Fresh orange and carrot (as well as any other) juice contributes to lowering cholesterol.
  8. Take small amounts in 3-4 hours.
  9. In addition to products containing animal fat, cholesterol levels in the blood increase smoking, coffee, stress and alcohol.

The diet lowering cholesterol can be stopped when its level is lowered to an acceptable rate and fixed. To do this, you need to regularly take the appropriate tests to determine the amount of cholesterol in the blood, and monitor it.
